The Chicago Patient Safety Forum has been named as the Node (center/convener) (Greater Chicago) for the Institute for Healthcare Improvement's 100,000 Lives Campaign.  The goal is to avoid 100,000 deaths over the next year, and every year thereafter by applying all or some of few proven interventions in partnership with 2000 hospitals nationwide.

The 100,000 Lives Campaign in greater Chicago already includes 50
hospitals, the Metropolitan Chicago Healthcare Council, and the Emergency Nurses Association. As part of its leadership role, CPSF aims to recruit additional hospitals and associations across metropolitan Chicago area.

The CPSF strongly supports this Campaign as an important step in facilitating system-based approaches to improving patient care. The rapid and wide dissemination of best practices is essential to the success
of this effort. The Campaign will lay the groundwork for a greater sharing of lessons learned and the best approaches to minimize any future adverse occurrences.

IHI launched a 100,000 Lives Campaign bus tour in September 2005 that stopped in Chicago on October 5, 2005. Chicago was one of only a select number of stops on the campaign tour.

If you are a Chicago metropolitan area healthcare facility and would like to become part of the IHI 100,000 Lives Campaign, please contact CPSF Executive Director Leonard Lamkin at 312-431-9110 or click here to register with IHI directly.
