Arnold L. Widen, MD, MS is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, as well as a Billings Fellow and a Past President of the Board of Governors of The Institute of Medicine of Chicago. Although Dr. Widen has held several administrative positions he has provided care to patients continuously since his graduation from medical in 1953. On November 1, 1998 he accepted the position of Executive Director of the Institute of Medicine of Chicago. He serves as a volunteer physician for Community Health, an entirely free inner-city healthcare clinic; he was elected to the Community Health Board of Directors in April 1998 and currently serves as it's the vice president. On January 1, 2000 he became Chairperson of the Suburban Primary Healthcare Council, which sponsors "Access to Care", a program that provides almost free care to uninsured individuals residing in suburban Cook County. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Northwestern University Student Health Service for 22 years. He has been a member of the faculty of Northwestern University Medical School since 1959 and is presently an Associate Professor of Medicine, and of Preventive Medicine, at that institution. Dr. Widen has received the Aesculapian Award from the Anti-Defamation League's Greater Chicago/Wisconsin Region for his outstanding accomplishments in the profession of medicine, the Russe Citation for Exemplary Compassion in Health Care, which is a joint award of The Institute of Medicine of Chicago and the Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Hospital and Medical Center and the Visionary Service Award from Community Health. |
